At AEMO, we are proud of the fact that we have some the most impressive energy professionals in the world representing our organisation.

On March 21 in Albuquerque, NM - USA, the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG) awarded Babak Badrzadeh - AEMO's Manager, Operational Analysis & Engineering - the 2019 Excellence Award for his work in planning and analysis in low inertia grids.

The award recognises energy professionals from around the world for their contributions towards the planning and operation of energy systems in ways that are reliable, economic, and sustainable.

"The Australian energy industry is experiencing a paradigm shift in several dimensions and is already one of the most challenging and interesting power systems worldwide," said Babak.

"This has required us to constantly develop and implement world-first solutions to better serve the people of Australia. It's very pleasing to see that expert international groups recognise the merit of these solutions from a worldwide application standpoint."

"I'd like to thank our Chief Executive Audrey Zibelman and our Chief Operating Officer Damien Sanford, and kudos to all my team members for being among the best engineers in Australia," he said.

In addition to his award, Babak has also been awarded three years of financial support from CIGRE (Council on Large Electric Systems) to convene two international working groups to tackle:

  • Power system restoration accounting for a rapidly changing power system and generation mix.
  • Electromagnetic transient simulation models for large-scale system impact studies in power systems having a high penetration of inverter connected generation.

These awards are fantastic recognition for the crucial work Babak and his team have been committed to in recent years, in addition to highlighting the transformative and progressive nature of the Australian energy industry as it continues to evolve. We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Babak and thank him for his incredible contribution to AEMO and the domestic industry.
